Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania’s most underrated safari destinations, known for its dramatic landscapes, ancient baobab trees, and impressive concentration of elephants. Located in northern Tanzania, the park covers approximately 2,850 square kilometers and forms part of the greater northern safari circuit.
The lifeline of the park is the Tarangire River, which attracts large numbers of wildlife, especially during the dry season when animals migrate from surrounding areas in search of water. This period offers spectacular game viewing, with sightings of elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and a wide variety of antelope species.
Tarangire is also a paradise for bird lovers, boasting over 550 recorded bird species, including colorful bee-eaters, hornbills, and raptors. The park’s diverse habitats—ranging from riverine forests and swamps to open savannah—support rich biodiversity and scenic beauty.
With fewer crowds compared to Serengeti and Ngorongoro, Tarangire National Park provides a more intimate and peaceful safari experience, making it an ideal start or end point for a northern Tanzania safari adventure.
